Not had the best of days today.

I have done nothing that I planned.

Took down the xmas decorations this morning, so the house was in disarray. They are in boxes in the upstairs hall just now, waiting muscles to arrive at the weekend to put them in the loft. Mind you, I am always astonished at how large my living room is once all the tutt has been boxed back up. (I am getting rid of some old ornaments so that is something, anyway.)

Then we went to the shops in Inverurie to get the fish for the aquarium that Santa brought. We bought three goldfish, all different types. One is a regular goldfish, now named Fishlips. The next is a comet goldfish called Argonian and finally a Shubunkin goldfish called Jess. I wanted a bottom feeder but for various reasons ended up with an apple snail which I have called Brian. He is fascinating. I am thoroughly enjoying the whole fish experience so far :)

Before we went to the pet shop, though, we hit Tesco for a few things I had run out of (potatoes being one, bread another). The place was not very busy, which suits me fine, but they barely had 10 tills open and the queues were really long. I am not used to standing in queues, doing my grocery shopping mainly online or in the small town locally. I hate crowds.

I walked along trying to find a till that didn't have a great long queue and found one right at the end of the shop. I joined the queue, and waited. And waited. Turned out the queue I had joined had a price query, which was why we weren't moving. So we waited longer. Eventually, that was sorted out, and the next went thru, then the next. During the wait this wifey came up with her trolley, looking for a shorter queue, and she started speaking to the woman in front of me. Now, the layout of the queues meant that I thought she might joining the one next to us, but lo-and-behold - when the woman in front of me moved up to start putting her groceries on the conveyor, she steps up in front of me to try and queue jump.

Well, I'm not proud of myself, but I was right in there "Excuse me, but I was waiting here first". She denied it, claimed I walked up after her, I stood my ground and said that - no - she had walked behind me. The woman in front of me agreed with the jumper and said that she had been speaking to this other woman, and I was like "I know, I was standing here when she started talking to you!". The thing was, it wasn't just me she was jumping in front of. There were folk behind me too, all waiting in line, all waiting their turn.

Anyway, she went behind me, and bloody waited. I felt rotten afterwards because what did it matter - a few extra minutes? - but sometimes I think that folk will just roll over and take it, and sometimes I don't want to just shut up and be walked on.

I actually KNEW she hadn't been in the line before me because I saw her walk up, saw her start talking to the woman in front of me and I thought to myself "I bet she tries to push in the queue!" and I was right. >:-[

Anyway, to top the day off, a close family member has been taken quite seriously ill this evening, and I feel dreadful because there is nothing I can do to help.

So - apart from the fish - a pretty shitty day.
